COURSE DETAILS
Location: 6850 Argonne St, Unit 100, Denver, Colorado 80249
DAY 1 OBJECTIVES:
Wall Systems for High-Performance Enclosures
Day 1 will focus on next gen, zero energy wall assemblies.
- Dig deeper into the science behind high performance wall assemblies, focusing on exterior insulation, weather resistive barriers, and air barrier details.
- Analyze how the building science principles of air, heat, and moisture flow interact with different designs.
- Investigate the options, alternatives, and challenges to installing continuous insulation and discover the best ways to guarantee you understand and meet your airtightness goals.
- Review wall section mock-ups in the lab and decide which designs are compatible with their climate zone.
- Review details for improving connections of the wall to foundation and wall to attic.
- Learn how air and weather barrier details in walls help maintain long-term enclosure durability.
- Learn how modeling with tools like Ekotrope can help you evaluate your decisions using a whole house systems approach.
DAY 2 OBJECTIVES:
High-Performance Mechanicals
On day two, we’ll explore how the right mechanical strategies can help you further increase energy efficiency, deliver comfort, and improve long-term durability.
- Understand the building science connection and participate in Ci’s boot camp on mechanical systems and components.
- Understand the basics of HVAC design and equipment options and how they are impacted by building enclosure decisions made by designers and builders.
- Learn about airflow dynamics and how to optimize for energy efficiency and comfort.
- Understand the basics of heat pump technology and how it’s applied to heating, cooling and domestic hot water in high-performance homes.
- Discover best practices in set up and system commissioning
